Gov. Hickenlooper names Stan Hilkey as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety

DENVER — Thursday, May 8, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced today Stan Hilkey will be the next Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Hilkey is the sheriff in Mesa County and will bring to his new job more than 28 years of public safety experience in the criminal justice system involving areas such as patrol operations, investigations and critical incident management.

Gov. Hickenlooper announces statewide grants to reduce wildfire risk

DENVER — Tuesday, May 6, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper announced today $1.7 million in grants to reduce wildfire risk in communities across Colorado. The grants will be directed to 27 projects in 13 counties to treat approximately 6,500 acres in areas where human development and forested landscapes overlap, often called the wildland-urban interface.

Colorado receives HUD approval on state plan to spend $62.8 million on flood recovery

DENVER — Wednesday, April 30, 2014  — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced it approved Colorado’s Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Action Plan. The Plan outlines how Colorado will distribute $62.8 million in grant dollars received from HUD for flood recovery programs.

Gov. Hickenlooper, U.S. Sen. Bennet to announce major investment for Colorado entrepreneurs

DENVER — Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper and U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, together with the Blackstone Charitable Foundation and the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Boulder School of Law, on Wednesday will announce a major investment for Colorado’s entrepreneurs.

Ready for playoff hockey fever, Gov. Hickenlooper issues proclamation to support the Colorado Avalanche

DENVER — Monday, April 14, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today released a proclamation to support the Colorado Avalanche as the team prepares to begin its playoff run. The governor also ordered Colorado Avalanche flags to be flown at the state Capitol (starting today) for as long as the team is in the playoffs. Two flags will fly near the west steps of the Capitol.

Gov. Hickenlooper, Great Outdoors Colorado announce funds to repair trails, waterways and parks impacted by flood

LYONS — Wednesday, April 9, 2014 —  Gov. John Hickenlooper joined the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Board today to announce the approval of $13 million for flood recovery efforts that will help communities restore damaged parks, trails and open spaces, and fund a trail corridor  between Lyons and Estes Park. The trail corridor would be in conjunction with Highway 36 flood reconstruction efforts already underway.
