President Obama orders flags lowered in observance of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance

DENVER — Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 — President Barack Obama today ordered flags be lowered Thursday, Sept. 11, to half-staff nationwide for Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered for Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra

DENVER — Friday, June 6, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Monday, June 9, in honor of Army Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra of Thornton. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Wykstra, 21, died on May 28 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. According to initial reports, Wykstra died of injuries sustained when his helicopter crashed. The incident remains under investigation.

Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered Monday to observe Memorial Day

DENVER — Friday, May 23, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Monday, May 26, as a mark of respect for Memorial Day and as proclaimed by President Barack Obama. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to noon.

Gov. Hickenlooper orders flags lowered for Sgt. David Baldwin

DENVER — Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today order flags be lowered to half-staff on Monday, Feb. 3, on all public buildings statewide in memory of Jefferson County Sheriff Sgt. David Baldwin. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Baldwin was a 27-year veteran of the agency. He was killed Jan. 26 in the line of duty after being hit on his motorcycle by a wrong-way driver on Highway 93.

State Capitol draped in orange, blue for the Denver Broncos' playoff run

DENVER — Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 — Gov. John Hickenlooper, Senate President Morgan Carroll and House Speaker Mark Ferrandino today asked all Coloradans to support the Denver Broncos in their sure-to-be-exciting playoff run. The state Capitol will show its “United in Orange” spirit with two Denver Broncos flags draped over the West Balcony as long as the team is in the playoffs.

Gov. Hickenlooper gives flag orders in memory of Claire Davis

DENVER — Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 — Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in honor of slain Arapahoe High School student Claire Davis. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
