DENVER — Thursday, July 16, 2015 —Gov. John Hickenlooper today announced the appointment of Norma A. Sierra as District Court Judge in the 20th Judicial District, which includes Boulder County. She will fill a vacancy due to the retirement of the Honorable D.D. Mallard.
Sierra was appointed in 2011 as County Court Judge for Boulder County and previously served as Magistrate Judge for the 20th Judicial District from 2002 to 2011. Before taking the bench, Sierra was a pro se case manager and Family Court Facilitator (2000-2002), a sole practitioner in domestic relations and mediation (1997-2000), a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices (1990-1993), and a legislative assistant to United States Representative Ronald D. Coleman of Texas (1987-1989).
Sierra earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1984 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law in 1987.
The appointment is effective August 1, 2015.
