DENVER — Wednesday, June 17, 2015 —Gov. John Hickenlooper today announced the appointment of Patrick H. Hayes, Jr., as District Court Judge in the 12th Judicial District (Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande, and Saguache Counties). He will fill a new position created by House Bill 15-1034 “Concerning an increase in the number of district court judges in the 12th Judicial District.”
Hayes was appointed in 2011 as the County Court Judge for Rio Grande County and as Water Referee for Division 3. His background includes work as a criminal defense attorney at Hayes Law, P.C. (2004-2011) and as a civil litigator at Steve Atencio & Associates (2001-2003). In addition, Hayes served as Magistrate for the 12th Judicial District (2001-2003) and as Municipal Magistrate for the City of Creede (2001-2004). Hayes has held multiple positions as a prosecutor, including: Chief Deputy District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District (1997-2001); Deputy District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District (1996, 2003-2004), Assistant District Attorney for Payne County, Oklahoma (1996); and Assistant District Attorney for Oklahoma County, Oklahoma (1994-1996).
Hayes earned his undergraduate degree from Cameron University in 1987 and his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1994.
The appointment is effective July 1, 2015.
